War in Middle East: International Energy Agency (IEA) set out range of measures that governments, businesses, households can take to alleviate economic impacts on consumers of disruptions to oil markets (shipping through Strait of Hormuz carries 20% of global petroleum consumption). Recommendations for road transport (representing 45% of global oil demand), air travel, cooking, industry are to reduce demand for fossil fuels from oil (diesel, jet fuel, liquefied petroleum gas/LPG) – remote work from home (elimination of commuting), reducie highway/motorway speed limits by at least 10 km/h (decrease in fuel consumption for cars, vans, trucks), encourage public transport (shift from private cars to buses, trains), alternate private car access to roads in large cities on different days (number-plate rotation schemes), increase car sharing and adopt efficient driving practices (higher car occupancy/carpooling, eco-driving), efficient driving for road commercial vehicles and delivery of goods (better driving practices, vehicle maintenance, load optimisation), divert LPG use from transport (shifting bi-fuel, converted vehicles from LPG to gasoline/petrol), avoid air travel (reducing business flights), switch to modern cooking solutions (encouraging electric cooking), leverage flexibility with petrochemical feedstocks (through quick operational improvements). Promoting electric vehicles, hybrids, other fuel-efficient vehicles alongside expanded charging infrastructure can help reduce global reliance on oil. Governments can accelerate adoption through tax incentives, subsidies, low-emission zones and other supportive policies, IEA concluded in report Sheltering From Oil Shocks
